This incredibly rare decanter set pre-dates Olympic & Titanic and was most likely made for SS Oceanic in or around 1899.
Made by Elkington Plate & Co of Birmingham, the oval, silver-plated tray is beautifully decorated around the rim and has the White Star Line burgee stamped into both sides. The handles have the 'Reed & Star' decoration synonymous with the White Star Line. To keep the crystal decanters in place raised rims have been attached to prevent them from falling over in adverse weather conditions.
The Stuart Crystal-made decanters are just stunning and are simply, but beautifully decorated and have the makers' famous Star pattern hand-cut into the bases, which are also shaped to fit into the rims on the tray. The stoppers, which incredibly, are hollow, also have the Star pattern hand-cut into them!
In 30 years of collecting, I have never seen another, so this really is a virtually unique opportunity to acquire a very rare item.
