No doubt many of you have been following the discovery and progress being made in rescuing two LSWR dining carriages that may have been part of the set used in the Titanic ‘Boat Trains’ on 10th April 1912.
These are the last two surviving carriages of this type and were built at Eastleigh Works near Southampton in May 1907 (carriage #70) and August 1908 (#76). Only 11 were built in this configuration and in all probability, two were used on each train.
Both of these carriages are going to be fully restored to original condition and will run on the Watercress Line Historic Railway in Hampshire. This line was originally part of the London Waterloo – Southampton route, so Titanic’s trains used this very railway line!!
During preparations for transportation to the workshop facilities, the decision was taken by the ‘Titanic Boat Train Heritage Trust’ (TBTHT) to remove small sections within the carriages that cannot be used in the restoration and these will be offered for sale to the public, with every penny going towards the project.
This is one of the roof support timbers from Carriage 76, so an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire one of these artifacts, as only a small number will be offered for sale. GRAB ONE NOW and own a VERY special piece of history… Comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity from the ‘TBTHT’.
