This beautiful asparagus dish was made for the White Star Line by John Maddock & Sons in England between 1896 – 1906, so most likely used on board SS Oceanic and the ‘Big Four’; ‘Baltic’, ‘Cedric’, ‘Celtic’ & 'Adriatic’.
The dish is in excellent condition with no chips or repairs and bears the intertwined letters ‘WSL’ in the centre and the manufacturer’s stamp on the back, along with the suppliers’ name, 'Stonier & Co' of Liverpool and the White Star Line.
NOTE: It was believed that this pattern was used in the 1920's/30's, but the backstamped company logo was registered for use by Maddocks between the dates shown above. Any further information would be appreciated.
