This incredibly rare, ceramic sink is from White Star Line's RMS Celtic.
Just like the 'Olympic Class' vessels, the 'Big Four' ships' staterooms & cabins were fitted with washstands, so its location on the ship is most likely to have been a public washroom.
What makes it so rare is the White Star Line logo inside the bowl. The base of the bowl bears the backstamp, "W.E & Co Ltd". This specific mark, including "L'Pool" for Liverpool, is associated with the early period of Poole Pottery, likely from the late 19th or early 20th century, before they established their own dedicated studios. The number "2207" is likely the pattern number.
In over 30 years of collecting, I have never seen another.
The bowl was displayed at the 'Ship of Dreams' exhibition until around 2010 and comes with its own specially-designed wooden crate for shipping. The exhibition assession number is also visible, but can be removed if required.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the weight and fragility of this wonderful artefact, collection or dedicated shipping can be arranged after purchase.
Shipping costs to be calculated after purchase.
