This incredibly rare chocolate or tea set is decorated in what is popularly known as the 'Wisteria' pattern, made by Brownstone, which is a more robust material than bone china.The pattern was used in 1st class, although normally decorated in turquoise and know to have been used in the dining room & reception areas of ships, such as RMS Olympic & Titanic. The brown tendrils were hand-painted and both piece are finished with gold leaf around the rims.
Although no records survive to confirm, this brown pattern may have been used out on deck. Either way, it is extremely rare to find a matching cup & saucer in this pattern, which is highly sought after by collectors.
The base of both bear the pattern registration numbers and the saucer is dated August 1903 and the cup April 1909. Condition is excellent, as can be seen in the photographs.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the only set available anywhere; no others have been offered for sale in some time. Don't miss this one; it could be many years before you find another!!
