In 1902, J.P. Morgan secured the purchase of the White Star Line as the crowning addition to the International Mercantile Marine Corporation (OSCN). Such was his determination to add one of the world's greatest shipping lines to his portfolio, WSL's chairman, J. Bruce Ismay negotiated a price almost 10 times the share value of the company!
White Star Line (Ismay, Imrie & Co) wrote to their shareholders to keep them informed of progress of the sale and we are proud to offer this original letter, signed by J. Bruce Ismay on belhalf of I.M.M.C. to one of their most long-standing shareholders and personal friend of Thomas Henry Ismay, John Cockton, of Kirkborough, Maryport in Cumbia; Thomas' home town.
For the serious, discerned collector, this is a wonderful letter is on official White Star Line headed paper and in excellent condition, documenting what was surely one of the turning points in the story of the creation of RMS Titanic, the 'Olympic' Class liners and indeed, maritime history.
This letter is part of the White Star Memories' 'Sale of the White Star Line' archive, purchased by us many years ago and is guaranteed authentic.
