In 1902, J.P. Morgan secured the purchase of the White Star Line as the crowning addition to the International Mercantile Marine Corporation (OSCN). Such was his determination to add one of the world's greatest shipping lines to his portfolio, WSL's chairman, J. Bruce Ismay negotiated a price almost 10 times the share value of the company!
White Star Line (Ismay, Imrie & Co) wrote to their shareholders to keep them informed of progress of the sale and we are proud to offer this original letter, signed by J. Bruce Ismay on behalf of I.M.M.C. Incredibly, it is addressed to his brother, James and himself, chronicling the completion of transfer of shares from the New York Stock Exchange to London, thus utilising the service of JP Morgan Banking in New York, and their parent company, JS Morgan in London.
For the serious, discerned collector, this wonderful, 2 page letter is on official White Star Line headed paper and in excellent condition, documenting what was surely one of the turning points in the story of the creation of RMS Titanic, the 'Olympic' Class liners and indeed, maritime history.
This letter is part of the White Star Memories' 'Sale of the White Star Line' archive, purchased by us many years ago, is guaranteed authentic and offers you an incredible opportunity to add a stunning piece of ephemera to your collection!!
